1. What is Chinmaya mission?

Chinmaya mission is an International spiritual organization founded by Swami Chinmayananda, in the early 70’s. Today there are hundreds of mission centers around the world. The goal of the mission is to share teachings from Hindu scriptures to all citizens of the world; young and old, men and women, of any cultural background. Through lecture series and satsangs, the Gurus of the mission help individuals to interpret the scriptures, and incorporate that which is meaningful into our lives.

2. What is a Divya Shakti retreat?

This retreat is a weekend get-a-away for women 21 years and older to gain an enriching holistic experience through spiritual discourses and group discussion, based on Hindu philosophy. From this retreat we hope women will get an opportunity to renew and rejuvenate one’s mind, and find a natural balance in managing the many activities of our daily lives.

3. What are the benefits I would gain from this retreat?

This is a weekend get-away from your routine responsibilities, where you will enjoy the company of other Devi’s, listen to learned teachers of Hindu philosophy, and understand ways to manage everyday pressures of work, family, and life mindfully, and with less stress.

4. Who is the target audience for this retreat?

Devi’s, or Women 21 years and older, of any culture, denomination or religion are welcome to attend this retreat. There will be a limited availability so register at your earliest convenience.

5. Is it necessary to attend the whole weekend retreat, Friday through Sunday?

No, Devi registrants are free to attend as much of the retreat as they are able. Participation for the entire retreat is not mandatory. However, In order to gain the maximum benefit from this retreat attendance at all the discourse sessions, small group discussions, and activities held throughout the weekend would be recommended.

6. What are the Camp timings?
1. Friday, Oct 6 delegates should arrive between 4.00 PM – 4.30 PM.
2. Saturday, Oct 7 and Sunday Oct 8, program begins at 7.00 AM
3. Friday & Saturday evenings, program will end at 9.30 PM
4. Sunday, program will conclude at 1.30, after lunch.
7. What are transportation arrangements?
A)For those arriving by air, we will have 2 pick ups at 12.00 noon and 2.00 PM on Friday, Oct 6. Please meet with volunteers by Georgia Lottery stall in South Baggage Claim area. Friday lunch, at delegates expense!
B)Transport to & from Hotel will be arranged by local volunteers.
C) Please book your return flights 4.30 PM or after on Sunday Oct 8. Delegates will be dropped off to the airport.

8. How will the theme of “Finding Your Calling” be addressed during the retreat, and what does that mean?

The theme of the retreat “Finding Your Calling” will be woven throughout the discourses led by learned Acharyas of the Chinmaya Mission, as well as in discussions and activities held among the Devi’s. The idea of finding your calling essentially refers to finding your true self, your passions and what makes you Happy.

9. Where is the retreat being held this year?

The 5th annual Divya Shakti retreat will be held in Atlanta, Georgia. Previous retreats took place in Cary NC, Washington D.C. and in Indiana. The retreat will take place in Chinmaya Niketan where all the discourses, discussions, and special activities will be held.

10. Who conducts these retreats?

The Divya Shakti retreat will be conducted by two inspirational Acharyas of the Chinmaya Mission West. Vivekji completed his Vedanta studies under Swami Tejomayananda in 2007, and has been the Directing Acharya for several mission centers in Canada and the Midwest states. Vilasiniji completed her study of Vedanta in the 70’s under the guidance of Swami Chinmayananda, and is a resident Acharya in Washington DC. They are both wonderful orators, and have great knowledge of Hindu scriptures and philosophies.

11. What does my registration fee include?

Your registration fee of $175 pays for all the discourses, workshops, activities, retreat materials, vegetarian meals, and Acharya expenses. The fee does not include offerings to Chinmaya Mission and the Acharyas.  Guru Dakshina will be offered during the Retreat.There are NO reduced rates for attending only a part of the retreat. Payments can be made by Check to Chinmaya Mission Atlanta, or by credit card at the website. Please make checks payable to Chinmaya Mission Atlanta and mail it to 5511 Williams Road, Norcross, GA 30093.

12. What is the cancellation policy?

In the past the policy has been:   Registration Fees are nonrefundable except in the case of emergencies.  (Otherwise, people want to wait until the last minute to be sure they can come.)

13. Where can I stay if I am coming from out of town?

Please book your hotel rooms before Sept 20. Each room is twin sharing. If you so wish, we will be more than glad to match you up with a delegate to share the room.
Local delegates/volunteers will transport those staying in Hotels to and from Chinmaya Niketan.

 

14. Which airport do I arrive to, if I am flying in for the retreat?

Guests flying in for the Divya Shakti retreat should arrive at Hartsfield Jackson Airport, Atlanta.

Devi’s flying in will have to cab it to the Hotel. Uber will cost under $40.00.

Mission is trying to arrange pick up/drop off from the airport as long as delegates arrive close to certain time. Keep watching this space for updates.

15. What should I bring to the retreat?

Comfortable Indian clothes or casual wear for the weekend.  Optional morning Yoga is offered, and Yoga Nidra in the afternoon.  For Yoga Nidra, please bring a shawl or sheet to lie on. Garba will be held on Saturday night. For Saturday’s morning activity, please come dressed in appropriate outdoor/park attire and shoes. Bring a change of clothes, just in case for the remainder of the Saturday. Also, please bring a steel water bottle in addition to toiletries and other personal belongings that you would need.

16. Is there childcare available at the retreat?

Unfortunately, there will not be childcare available for the retreat. The retreat is solely organized for women, so that mothers can enjoy the opportunity to reflect on the positive aspects of parenthood and womenhood.
