CM GA Gita-Fest 2024

We are excited to announce the first ever state level Gita chanting competition taking place at
Chinmaya Niketan at 5511 Williams Rd, Norcross, GA on May 18th, 2024 (Saturday) at 9 AM ET.
 

There are 3 distinct competitions, i.e., Chant Gita, Learn Gita – Vocabulary Test, and Yuva Talks. The rules are as described below.

Eligibility Criteria

Chant Gita Competition: This is open only to the Bala Vihar children who are placed in the top 3 places in regional Gita Chanting competition (with memorization) and in Grades 1 to 12.

Learn Gita Vocabulary Competition: This is a written round. This is open only to the Bala Vihar children who have participated in regional Gita Chanting competitions and in Grades 1 to 12. 

The test will be administered online. Please bring your own device ( Laptop or a tablet). Internet access will be provided through the Chinmaya Niketan Wifi.

Yuva Talks:

This is open to ALL the Bala Vihar children in Grades 10 – 12. There is no requirement that they should have participated in the regional contests.

Chant Gita Competition:
  1. Open only to those who placed in the top 3 places of Gita Chanting (with memorization) in the grade levels from Grade 1 to Grade 12 divided into 5 groups, i.e., Grades 1&2, Grades 3&4, Grades 5&6, Grades 7-9, Grades 10-12.

  2. The number of verses to learn are higher than our regional competition. You will find the number of assigned verses by grade groupings here in the rules for the national competition as we follow the same rules for the state level (https://chinmayagita.net/gitafest2024/). Please look under the section titled “Event Details” as well as additional details and scoring rubric.

  3. The rules are also different for the state level. Here are the rules. The last quarter of a verse will be read out as a prompt to the participant. The participant then has to recall and chant the subsequent three verses that follow the prompted quarter.
    Rounds per participant: 3
    Response time: 10 seconds before time-out.
    Note 1: Chapter opening and closing has to be chanted by all participants. Verse prompts shall start after the participant chants the opening. Closing should be chanted after all 3 rounds are completed. Verses prompted shall be randomly selected for each participant, within the assigned verses. Chanting of the opening and closing shall not be evaluated for pronunciation.

  4. Swami BrahmanandaJi’s chanting of Chapter 4 has been published with a mobile-friendly user interface, for students to listen and practice on the go!

Learn Gita  Vocabulary Competition

 Open only to those who participated in regional Gita Chanting competition in grade levels from Grade 1 to Grade 12 divided into 5 groups, i.e., Grades 1&2, Grades 3&4, Grades 5&6, Grades 7-9, Grades 10-12.
  1. The Vocabulary lists have been binned into the categories based on the 5 grade-groups with the following study resources:
  2. a) Matsya – 30 words (Grades 1&2) 
  3. b) Kurma – 60 words (Grades 3&4 AND Grades 5&6) and 
  4. c) Varaha – 90 words (Grades 7-9 AND Grades 10-12). 
  5. Many interactive games and activities have been created by the GitaFest Learn Gita Working Group. Please check them out and use them to prepare for your Vocabulary Test.
  6. A question paper for each of the above groups will be provided on the day of the contest. The questions to evaluate the comprehension of the vocabulary may include a) word search, b) fill in the blanks, c) match the words and their meanings, d) anagrams, f) multiple choice questions, e) crossword puzzles etc.
  7. Selection for Nationals: Ten Finalists from each state should comprise two finalists from Grades 1-2, two finalists from Grades 3-4, two finalists from Grades 5-6, two finalists from Grades 7-9, and two finalists from Grades 10-12 will be identified and announced at the State Level and advance to Nationals.
  8. NATIONAL Level Quiz

    1. The Final Vocabulary Quiz shall be held on July 6, 2024. The finalists will be evaluated in a format similar to the one administered at State Finals.  This Vocabulary Quiz will be administered in-person to the participants present in Chicago or proctored  online to the participants in their respective Chinmaya Mission centers.

Yuva Talks Competition

  1. Open to anyone in Grades 10 – 12.
  2. The topics and guidelines are as provided below. You have the freedom to select the topic of your choice.
